Think together to act together
We're creating community written and supported proposals for constructive change
The City of Greater Geraldton is jointly creating a sustainable future for our City Region in a project called 2029 and Beyond.
To help us to do this well, we first need to make some changes in our own backyard.
The Executive Management Team encourages you to join our effort and promises to review and respond to all actionable proposals that meet their guidelines for relevance, completeness, evidence, and community support.
If you have a new idea that's not listed, suggest it now.
To complement both our new Physical Activity and Nutrition Plan and the new foreshore exercise equipment, the City may want to consider organising/sponsoring free community fitness classes down at the foreshore, perhaps once or up to a few times each week. This idea was recently seen working very successfully in Cairns, where it was run by the local city-council. It would require a fitness instructor (or perhaps a rotating roster). A possible source of instructors may be the Cert IV Sport and Rec students at Durack Institute of Technology, as they would also be gaining valuable experience working with the community. The City has created a beautiful place to exercise down at the Foreshore, and we should make the best use of this resource, as well as Geraldton's fabulous year-round weather. People are more likely to want to exercise if they can participate with others at regular times, and offering exercise classes for free may also help those who can't afford gym membership.

I have lots of ideas for applications to travel over our soon to be delivered Australia first, super fast network connected to the NBN at GUC. I want to stretch our imagination and establish a futurist group to dream us a vision that we2 can implement. No boundaries, nothing impossible, take a leap out there and become a futurist. Some of my immediate thought bombs Setting up a Local internet exchange, GIX, for free peer data transfer Ubiquitous and free HD Video conference Cctv expansion Wifi available everywhere Talking street signs Free Iphone apps for our youff to find out stuff and get around Real time sensing data through some sort of neural network, water, traffic, booze busses, wild parties to be displayed over our talking street signs or iphone app Running an IP TV station

The Library prides itself on providing a high level of customer service, but has no written policies or guidelines relating to customer service. Building on the CGG values, I would like to involve the Library team in contributing their ideas and values to produce a document which outlines our objectives and services as well as the level of service a client can expect when they visit the Library.

A welcome pack would be of great benefit to new residents moving into the region. This would include information about the City's Council Departments and the services it provides, introduce ward councillors, detail the services that are available for youth, family, seniors, park facilities, maps, details on annual events etc. The City of Fremantle issues a welcome pack and it is very impressive.

A large number of people have contributed their time to the 2029 and Beyond project. It is really important that we recognising this contribution. I suggest that we recognise these people by allocating a brick imprinted with their name and then using these bricks to create a path or some other creative 'thing' within the city

Before I commenced work at the CGG I was very ignorant in regards to what work was actually being conducted at the city. I find a lot of young people (my fellow peers) have no comprehension of the type of work being carried out by the city, for example: the running of the pool, gallery, bright stars family day care and civic evolution. I would like to propose a booklet or pamphlet of some sort that explains in simple terms what the CGG actually does for the Geraldton-Greenough community. The publication could possibly outline what enterprises, projects and programs etc are run by the City and place special emphasis on the 2029 vision. There should also be an explanation of the role of councillors & the mayor. This educational resource could be distrubuted to rate payers, community members students. It would be an informative means of letting people know what we actually do, similar to the WALGA television ads describing local government in general terms: http://www.walga.asn.au&

This Conference could allow for presentations from staff with new initiatives, ideas or other peoples ideas from conferences attended. We could also hear from the CEO, Directors and invited speakers. Topics can be to streamline business, colloborative workshops and vision/team building or more. Part of this concept will be to empower staff and put on a good annual or bi-annual event that some may otherwise not get the cahnce to go to. Furthermore, it will provide opportunities for staff to present material to their workmates. This forum has the ability to break down cross department barriers and focus the whole team toward common goals and better results for the local community.

I think it is important that the City make people inside and outside of the organisation aware of what we have achieved. I envisage a check-list or summary of actions/tasks that the public want/need or that are happening, with big ticks/dates next to them once they’re completed, on display in perhaps the two Centros, which most people would visit (at least one of them) every now and then. Perhaps even one on display in the mall. Just something simple to read/understand that shows people what we have DONE and achieved lately, because a lot of the time they don't know. But I really think it needs to be somewhere else a well as on the website or in the reception of the City building. Somewhere everyone can have the opportunity to see it.

The City of Geraldton-Greenough has a five year detailed budget process that has been utilised to formulate the 2009/2010 and the 2010/2011 Budget. The intention for the 2011/2012 budget process is to is to expand the process to incorporate a ten year high level macro budget. This will provide an opportunity to better map future works and ensure the City has a robust and sustainable financial plan in place. This process will complement the normal detailed 2011/2012 budget which will be presented to council in June 2011.
